What police did to a Mashriq TV journalist is simply shameful
Shehzad Afridi, a journalist for Mashriq TV, was tortured and arrested by police in Hayatabad. This incident has sparked protests by fellow journalists demanding his release.

PESHAWAR - Shehzad Afridi, a journalist with Mashriq TV was tortured and arrested Thursday by police in Hayatabad area.

According to menafn.com, Afridi was heading to Jamrud from Karkhano Market where he witnessed police checking smugglers at a check post. He stopped by to record the scene. This led to the police seizing his mobile and beating him.

The journalist was later shifted to Tatara Police Station, Hayatabad.

The website said that a group of journalists staged a protest demonstration on Pak-Afghan Highway that disrupted traffic for two hours.

The protesters called for immediate release of their colleague. Negotiations are under way with the political tehsildar.
