ISLAMABAD—Asad Hashim, correspondent of Al-Jazeera in Pakistan, has announced he is joining AFP's Asia Pacific hub in Hong Kong as an editor.
Hashim took to Twitter on Tuesday, announcing: "Today is my last day at Aljazeera English, after more than 11 years with the organisation."
According to him, Al Jazeera English is a unique newsroom, one that is thoughtful, reflexive and constantly centers the core value of speaking truth to power."
"In the coming weeks I'll be joining AFP's Asia-Pacific hub in Hong Kong, working on the newsdesk as an editor to bring you stories from across the region. I'm looking forward to the challenge, and excited for what comes next," he said.
During his tenure with Al Jazeera, Hashim covered South Asia and the Middle East and reported on extremism, security, politics, and human rights, primarily focusing on Pakistan.
Hashim is a recipient of the 2018 Agence France-Presse Kate Webb Prize, recognizing his intrepid coverage of the plight of ethnic Pashtuns and blasphemy issues in Pakistan.
He was honored for an illuminating series of articles on ethnic Pashtuns and other minority groups caught in the crossfire of Pakistan's bloody battle against militants.
