Chief Justice orders IGP to arrest journalist Zeeshan's killers within four days

LAHORE - The Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar has ordered the Punjab Inspector General of Police to arrest the killers of Nawa-i-Waqt journalist Zeeshan Ashraf Butt within four days.

Zeeshan, 29, was shot dead allegedly by Imran Cheema, Chairperson of the Begowala Union Council (Sialkot) on March 27.

IGP Arif Nawaz informed the court that they made efforts to arrest the perpetrators.

The court adjourned the hearing until next week.

According to the SHO, the reason behind the murder was a political rivalry. Cheema belongs to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

Zeeshan had gone to see the Imran Cheema, who reportedly got upset over some of the questions the journalist asked and threatened to kill him.

Cheema allegedly killed him shortly afterward when he was making a phone call to the chairperson of the district council.

Police have registered a case against Cheema and four of his accomplices.
