Accused in banner case was in contact with journalists, SC told
The Supreme Court criticized the Islamabad Police for not making progress in the arrest of individuals involved in displaying anti-judiciary banners. The main accused, Arshad, revealed connections to journalists during the investigation.
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Thursday reprimanded Inspector General of Islamabad Police Tahir Alam Khan for failure to arrest the accused involved in displaying banners against the judges of higher judiciary.
The court also remarked if the police failed to make progress in the case, the court would issue proper orders in this regard.
The IGP informed the three-member bench of the apex court the police arrested accused Arshad who displayed banners against the apex court judge Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja.
During interrogation, the accused admitted that he displayed banners against the superior court judge after watching `Khara Sach' program on ARY News, the IGP said.
He said the main accused Arshad has got bail in the case from Islamabad High Court.
“The accused was in contact with Mubashir Lucman and other journalists and admitted that he displayed the banners after getting inspiration from Mubashir Lucman's program,” he said.
The IGP said the police wanted to investigate Lucman in the case but he has also obtained bail.
