TIME named Magazine of the Year
TIME was named Magazine of the Year at the 2012 National Magazine Awards held in New York. New York won three awards and The New Yorker won two. The ceremony was hosted by Brian Williams, and Terry McDonell received a Magazine Editors' Hall of Fame honor.

NEW YORK: The winners of the 2012 National Magazine Awards were announced at the annual awards presentation at the New York Marriott Marquis. TIME was named Magazine of the Year. New York won three awards, and The New Yorker won two. Sponsored by the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME), in association with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, the National Magazine Awards are the preeminent awards for magazine journalism. "Tonight wasn't just about one or two magazines," said Sid Holt, chief executive of ASME. "Service and lifestyle titles like O, The Oprah Magazine and House Beautiful won their first General Excellence awards, but so did business and technology books like Inc. and IEEE Spectrum. Publications like Esquire and Vanity Fair continue to publish extraordinary literary journalism, and GQ and TIME are pushing the boundaries of magazine making both in print and on digital platforms." Known as the Ellies, for the Alexander Calder stabile "Elephant" given to each winner, the 2012 awards were hosted by Brian Williams, anchor and managing editor of the "NBC Nightly News" and "Rock Center." – Marketwire The event was highlighted by the presentation of the Magazine Editors' Hall of Fame award to Terry McDonell, Editor of the Time Inc.
