Nusrat Javeed thanks friends for support after rude DawnNews decision
Nusrat Javeed thanked his friends and colleagues for their support following his layoff from DawnNews. The decision sparked widespread discussion on social media about the implications for journalism in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD – Senior analyst and journalist Nusrat Javeed on Monday thanked his colleagues, friends, and followers for their good wishes and sympathies after his surprising layoff by DawnNews Television.

JournalismPakistan.com broke the news about his layoff on Sunday that ignited the social media.

He said that since he stayed away from social media during the weekend, he could not acknowledge all the messages.

“I stay away from social media during the weekend; couldn't acknowledge the flood of messages that so many friends were sending to express sympathy and support. Please accept the belated thanks. Seriously feel overwhelmed with your love, care, and concern,” Javeed tweeted.

In another tweet, he said: “It is almost impossible for me to reply friends, individually. Hope you will appreciate my limits on this count and trust my pleased heart.”

Javeed was with DawnNews since March 2016 and appeared in the show ‘Bol Bol Pakistan’ along with Gulmeenay Sethi.

The management reportedly cut his job and those of others associated with his program because of financial difficulties.

But the DawnNews decision was seen as rude and unwise by many considering his stature in Pakistani journalism.

“Losing guidance from outspoken men with the light of integrity and wisdom is a loss for the nation struggling in the dark to identify its path & to differentiate friend from foe,” tweeted Imran Ahmed (@ImranAKisan).

Raees Ahmed (@raees_ahmed786) commented: “Very sad as Nusrat is one of the very few who are respected for their open and honest opinions. Might well be a business decision by Dawn or an invisible order from somewhere else?”
