Two DawnNews staffers injured in Karachi shooting

KARACHI –Two employees of DawnNews Television were reportedly injured in a shooting incident in Karachi on Wednesday. Dawn.com reported that Hakim Khan and Yousaf sustained injuries and were being treated at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

The incident occurred in the Landhi 89 neighborhood. One staffer was shot in the neck while the other was shot in the leg. Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, causing panic in the area. Local residents rushed to the scene to assist the injured journalists and transport them to the hospital.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and it is not immediately evident who the attackers were. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and security around the area has been heightened. Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to identify the culprits.

This shooting adds to the growing list of violent attacks against media professionals in Karachi. Journalist unions and media organizations have condemned the incident, calling for increased protection for journalists who often face significant risks while performing their duties. The attack on DawnNews staff highlights the dangerous environment in which media personnel operate in Pakistan.
