ISLAMABAD—Journalist Hamid Mir has escalated his concerns about the ongoing slow internet issues in Pakistan by filing a petition with the Islamabad High Court.
The country has been grappling with sluggish internet speeds for several days, significantly affecting both personal and professional activities across various sectors.
This issue has not gone unnoticed by the government. During a recent Senate Standing Committee meeting, Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja acknowledged the problem, explaining that the government is in the process of upgrading its "web management" systems. These upgrades are part of a broader effort to address online security threats that have increasingly become a concern.
Mir, a prominent journalist known for his outspoken views, has taken the unusual step of seeking judicial intervention. His petition, filed by Advocate Imaan Mazari, outlines the severe impact that the slow internet has had on journalistic work. Mir argued that he, along with many other journalists, has been hindered in fulfilling his professional duties due to the unreliable internet service.
The petition calls for immediate action to restore and stabilize internet speeds.
