Anchor's remarks land Channel 24 in seeming trouble

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Thursday issued a show cause notice to Channel 24 after prominent anchor Mubasher Luqman spoke out against the Chief Justice's son in his program 'Khara Such'.

In the program aired on May 6, Luqman was quoted in a PEMRA release as saying: "If today...I tell you in front of everyone that Justice Jamali's son.....how many houses he has bought in Karachi in the past few days.....I would be held in contempt of court....PEMRA would ban this. So I am not telling this now...but I am only telling this that such news is due in the next few days....that whosoever's son is doing what and where....."

PEMRA said that according to legal experts such comments were a violation of Articles 19 and 204.

The channel has been given until May 19 to respond to the show cause notice.
