PEMRA likely to fine Channel 92 Rs500,000 for 'irresponsible reporting'

KARACHI - PEMRA's Council of Complaints, Karachi has recommended a fine of Rs500,000 on Channel 92 for irresponsible and unverified reporting.

A PEMRA release says the recommendations were made after hearing a complaint of Asim Hussain, filed through his legal counsel Anwar Mansoor Khan, Senior Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan. The release did not say what the unverified report was about that led to the channel being fined.

The Council also heard a complaint against DawnNews program News Eye, hosted by Ms. Mehar Bukhari. The release did not elaborate on the complaint.

It was recommended that an advice be issued to the channel for violating the Code of Conduct and failing to have time-delay mechanism in place.
