ISLAMABAD: Rana Tahir, senior editor of Urdu-language daily Jehan Pakistan has been fired after turning down a management’s request to sack staff.
Reports say he was asked to terminate employees drawing salaries of Rs 0.1 million – something he did not want to do. Rana Tahir was the resident editor of widely-circulated Jang newspaper for many years.
Insiders say more lay-offs are expected at the paper that belongs to the University of Lahore. Its management is likely to launch their DM News Television channel soon.
JournalismPakistan.com had reported June 14 that the newspaper’s magazine editors in Lahore and Islamabad were asked to submit their resignations which they did. The general manager marketing also had to leave in somewhat similar circumstances.
Several other staff members are being asked to resign or get booted out.
