PEMRA bans use of helicam to cover Pakistan Day parade

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned the use of drone cameras by television channels to cover the Pakistan Day parade on March 23.
“The concerned authorities have been directed to shoot down drone cameras of TV channels if used despite this warning,” a PEMRA spokesman said in a statement.
The decision to ban drone cameras to cover the parade was taken after the authority held a detailed meeting with the law enforcement officials.
The spokesman said PEMRA had already decided that no licensee shall be allowed to use unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or Quadcopter helicams unless authorized by the local administration of the area where the UAV was to be deployed.
Private television channels have been using drone cameras or helicams for quite some time to cover political gatherings, other news events and incidents like terrorism. PEMRA, however, feels that the UAVs could be used for terror activities during the parade.
