Raid on house of paralysis-stricken journalist Shabbar Azami

KARACHI – Security personnel raided the house of ailing elderly journalist Shabbar Azami on Sunday, took photos and left.

Azami is on a wheelchair following a paralysis attack some months ago.

Reports said the raiding team took photos of all the rooms and went away.

Azami is known for his struggle for press freedom and stood up against dictatorship. He belongs to the group of the illustrious unionist late Minhaj Barna, the founding father of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ).

During his career, Azami worked for Musawaat and Amn newspapers besides others.

Meanwhile, press freedom watchdog Freedom Network expressed concern on Monday against the increase in such incidents in Karachi. It called on the provincial government to ensure police-led intimidation against media is stopped.
