Another five press clubs forced to cease activities in Balochistan
The press freedom situation in Balochistan is worsening as five more press clubs cease operations indefinitely. This follows threats from militant groups regarding media coverage.

QUETTA – The press freedom situation in Balochistan continued to deteriorate rapidly as another five press clubs shut down ceasing all their activities.

The office-bearers of press clubs in Sarawan, Hub, Wandar, Uthal, and Bela decided to lock up their respective clubs for an indefinite period.

Their decisions were prompted by serious threats from militant groups in the province who said the media was presenting only the government’s point of view.

On October 25, a hand grenade was tossed at the Hub Press Club by assailants belonging to the Baloch Liberation Front. There was no loss of life or damage to property.

Earlier, the Gwadar, Panjgur, Kharan, and Dalbadin Press Clubs also closed down.

A JournalismPakistan.com source says the authorities in the province were not providing any security to journalists, press clubs, and media houses.
