PEMRA bans telecast of two plays
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority has prohibited the telecast of two dramas for content against social values. They have also instructed a content review for other shows.

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Friday banned the telecast of drama Ishqiya on ARY Digital and Pyar k Sadky on Hum TV for content deemed against social and religious values.

The regulator slapped the ban under Section 27 of PEMRA Ordinance. "The telecast of dramas would also be banned on ARY Zindagi and Hum Sitary."

The regulator has directed ARY Digital to review the content of the play Jalan after receiving complaints from viewers and warned that too could be banned.

Furthermore, PEMRA also directed all the TV channels, media, and production houses to review the content of dramas they telecast otherwise, action would be taken over violations.

KEY POINTS:

  • PEMRA bans Ishqiya and Pyar k Sadky for violating regulations.
  • Action is based on complaints regarding the shows' content.
  • Review of Jalan drama mandated by PEMRA.
  • Future actions may be taken against channels that violate content standards.
  • All media outlets are warned to audit their drama content compliance.
