Journalists protest in front of Express Group offices

ISLAMABAD – The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) on Monday demonstrated in front of the offices of Express Media Group against retrenchment of employees.
The protesters chanted slogans against the media house for laying-off workers without assigning any reason.
Afzal Butt, President of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), and President RIUJ, Mubarak Zeb Khan were among those who addressed the crowd.
They demanded immediate reinstatement of all employees sacked by the media house. The group runs the English language newspaper The Express Tribune, Urdu Daily Express and Express News Television.
Meanwhile, the journalists plan to demonstrate outside the National Press Club on Tuesday and in front of the Parliament House the following day.
The protests are part of a campaign that a Joint Action Committee of journalists has started against the wholesale sackings of workers by news organizations.
