ISLAMABAD: Six members of the National Press Club have been elected unopposed as three main opposition groups decided to boycott the annual elections.
In a statement issued Monday, the press club management said that six members were elected unopposed for the NPC while 17 others were elected on the governing body of the club, also unopposed. Those elected unopposed for 2014-15 include Finance Secretary Waqar Satti (pictured), Vice President Fareeda Hafeez, Joint Secretary Asim Ali Rana, Shafqat Hussain Saba, Aamir Sajjad Syed, and Myra Azam.
The governing body members elected unopposed include Waqar Kazmi, Syed Samar Abbas, Nawabzada Khursheed, Waseem Khan, Ejaz Hussain Malik, Malilk Qasim, Sohail Shahzad, Basharat Khan Abbasi, Syed Nasir Abbas Naqvi, Kashif Rafique, Muhammad Qaisar, Syed Shaharyar Hussain, Hadi Abdul Manan, Mohsin Ali, Nosheen Akbar, Sadia Sehar and Afshan Qureshi.
The statement said the polling for the positions of president, vice president and general secretary will be held on December 27 as per schedule.
Three candidates Shaharyar Khan, Farrukh Nawaz Bhatti and Naseeb Elahi are contesting for the position of president while four including Baqir Sajjad Syed, Abdur Razzaq Sial, Ishaq Solangi and Babar Ali Mughal are running for vice president
Tariq Mahmood Chaudhry and Khizar Hayat Klasra will be contesting for the position of the secretary.
