ISLAMABAD: Senate on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution to condemn attack on Geo Television presenter Hamid Mir.
The resolution expressing concern over attacks on media persons and media houses asked the government to take appropriate measures for the protection of journalists. It called for a transparent probe into the attack and making the inquiry report public. Earlier journalists boycotted the Senate proceedings against the attack on Mir.
The Senate also constituted a committee to work with journalists for legislation to protect the community and fulfill assurances by successive governments.
On the other hand, Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani has approved names of three Supreme Court judges for the judicial commission to probe the attack. The judges are Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rahman and Justice Ejaz Afzal.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had directed that a judicial commission be constituted. According to a PM House spokesman the commission would submit its report in three weeks.
