ISLAMABAD: Javed Akhtar, Member of Punjab Assembly, moved a privilege motion in the assembly Wednesday against senior journalist and anchorperson, Rauf Klasra, for what he called were insulting remarks about members of the South Punjab in one his recent programs.
Klasra co-hosts a current affairs program on 92 News Television and is renowned for his incisive analysis on politics, governance and corruption.
“Commenting on Senate elections on March 2 in his program on 92 News, Klasra said that members from South Punjab would sell their vote just for a few million rupees instead of billions,” Akhtar said in the motion.
He said the journalist has labeled members from South Punjab as a sellable commodity which is unfortunate.
There are around a hundred members of the assembly from the region and they have always decided as per their conscience, he said.
“They (the members) have never done anything that could be a matter of shame for them or the party,” he said.
Akhtar said the journalist has breached privilege of not only the members from South Punjab but also the whole house; therefore the motion should be referred to the privilege committee.
