MANILA: The Philippines government has condemned the killing of a female tabloid reporter in the province of Cavite.
Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda said the Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered the creation of a special investigation task group to go after the suspects who attacked Rubylita Garcia, 52, in Bacoor City, Cavite. Garcia was a correspondent of Remate newspaper for more than 20 years.
According to the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines, Garcia was the 20th journalist killed under the Aquino government and the 160th since 1986.
Garcia was gunned down in front of her 10-year-old granddaughter and a relative at her home early Sunday.
The assailants barged into the victim’s home past 10am before firing at least four shots at the journalist. She died at the hospital five hours later. - Agencies
