Missing Pakistani journalist Sajid Hussain found dead in Sweden

ISLAMABAD—Sajid Hussain, 39, a journalist from Balochistan, who went missing on March 2 in Sweden, was found dead on Thursday.

Reports said Hussain's body was recovered from a river in Uppsala.

According to Balochistan Times, "Sajid Hussain, the editor-in-chief of Balochistan Times, is no more. The Swedish police informed his family last night on (Thursday) that they had discovered his body from a river in Uppsala."

Hussain, who had worked with various Pakistani media outlets, had sought political asylum in Sweden in 2017, where he launched Balochistan Times, an online magazine.

The Committee to Protect Journalists had urged the Swedish authorities to ensure Hussain's safety and locate the missing journalist.

Hussain fled Pakistan in 2012 after receiving death threats, having his home raided, his family interrogated, and surveilled. Between 2012 and 2017 he moved through Oman to the United Arab Emirates and Uganda before finally seeking refuge in Sweden.
