Police make arrests in attack on Express News anchor

LAHORE: A top police official said Friday that six people, among them the mastermind of the attack on prominent television anchor Raza Rumi have been arrested.

 

Chaudhry Shafiq, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) told the media that the mastermind identified as Abdul Rauf Gujar belongs to the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. Rumi, an analyst who anchors the program Khabar Se Agay on Express News Television came under a gun attack in Lahore as he headed home from work. He miraculously escaped with only minor injuries but his driver was killed and a guard injured.


Shafiq said Gujar was a resident of Lahore's Badami Bagh neighborhood. The six suspects were involved in assassination attempts on political and religious figures and were also into kidnapping and drug dealings.
