ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued notices to several news channels for violating a ban on airing of MQM leader Altaf Hussain's footage.
Top channels showed images of Hussain arriving at a police station in London on October 5. “Airing the picture, video or statement of MQM head can be termed as a contempt of court and violation of PEMRA orders,” the regulatory authority warned.
On the orders of Lahore High Court, PEMRA directed all television channels on September 7 to stop broadcasting Hussain's images, speeches and statements.
PEMRA further pointed out Saturday that ban on MQM chief was a case that is subjudice and all channels were therefore bound to obey the court orders.
The channels are required to submit a reply in two weeks.
