Minister assures action against channels airing 'obscene musical programs'

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada assured the National Assembly Tuesday the government would take action against television channels violating PEMRA laws.

Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Sher Akbar Khan, Sahibzada Tariq Ullah,  Sahibzada Muhammad Yaqub and Aisha Syed, the minister said the Ministry of Information had directed Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to examine all aspects of the programs telecast by TV channels and submit a report.  The government would take action after the report, he added.

The members had invited attention of the Ministry for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage to telecasting of “obscene musical programs” by private television channels wherein songs and dance by young boys and girls were being aired in the name of Pakistan Idol, which was causing grave concern among the public.

Aisha Syed said the program would have a negative impact on young generation. - APP
