QUETTA – Senior journalist Bahram Baloch was elected President of Gwadar Press Club Monday for 2017-18 in what were the club’s first-ever elections.
Baloch works for Daily Intehkab as bureau chief and is a stringer for Dawn in Gwadar. He beat Noor Mohsin in the polls.
This is the fourth time that Baloch has become the club’s president. Earlier, office- bearers of the press club were selected based on mutual consensus. This is first time that proper elections were held.
Among other office-bearers, Murad Salik was elected General Secretary, Akhtar Malang (Vice President) and Javed Ahmed (Treasurer). Sadaqat Ali was elected Joint Secretary unopposed.
Journalists from all over Balochistan congratulated the newly-elected office- bearers and wished them good luck.
Gwadar Press Club has 19 members and it has become important in the last few years due to China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Different newspapers and channels are contemplating establishing their bureaus in Gwadar given the expected development in the city.
