Ukrainian journalist Anna Kalyuzhna threatened with death and rape after army commander's accusations

KIEV—The Coalition for Women in Journalism (CFWIJ) has reported that Ukrainian war correspondent Anna Kalyuzhna is facing severe threats against her life and safety. These threats, including death and rape, are also directed at her parents.

The hostility toward Kalyuzhna began after a Facebook post by a Ukrainian army commander accused her of undermining the sacrifices of soldiers, labeling her an "enemy for the rest of her life."

The CFWIJ and the World Press Freedom (WPF) organization have both condemned these attacks and called for an urgent investigation to identify and prosecute those responsible for threatening Kalyuzhna and her family. The accusations and subsequent threats underscore the increasing dangers faced by journalists covering conflict zones and holding powerful entities accountable.

Kalyuzhna, known for her brave and incisive reporting from the front lines, has been a vocal advocate for transparency and truth in war reporting. Her colleagues and press freedom advocates have expressed solidarity with her, highlighting the critical role of independent journalism in conflict zones. The international community is closely watching the situation, urging Ukrainian authorities to ensure the safety of journalists and uphold press freedom.
