Journalist beaten up by political leader's guards

KARACHI – Security guards of a Pakistan Muslim League-Functional leader beat up a journalist Saturday for objecting to rash driving by vehicles in his convoy.

Dawn reported that journalist Zubair Ashraf representing The Express Tribune was injured after being beaten with sticks.

The paper said Ashraf was heading to work along with the newspaper’s photographer Ather Khan on a motorbike. They narrowly escaped an accident on the main Korangi Road where the fast-moving convoy of Karachi PML-F president was passing through.

On raising objection to the rash driving, Ashraf was thrashed by the guards.

Dawn quoting SSP-South Saqib Ismail Memon said the journalist’s medical examination had been done. An FIR would be registered when an application is filed by the victim.
