The News journalist Waseem Abbasi wins Humphery Fellowship

ISLAMABAD - Waseem Abbasi, an investigative journalist at The News in Islamabad has won the prestigious Fulbright’s Humphery Fellowship for 2016-2017. He will be studying at the University of Maryland, College Park.

This year Waseem is the only journalist selected from Pakistan for this fellowship which brings accomplished mid-career professionals with demonstrated leadership potential to the United States for a year of graduate-level academic coursework and professional development activities.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship is a 10-month program that consists of academic coursework and internship in a relevant professional organization. By providing future leaders and policy-makers with experience in US society, culture, and professional fields, the program provides a basis for lasting, productive ties between Americans and their professional counterparts overseas.

Previously Waseem had also won the Chevening South Asia Journalism Fellowship and RTI Champions Award 2015. He worked for The Brunei Times, Geo Television, and The Nation before joining The News Investigation Cell in 2013.
