PFUJ to hold protests against PBA

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has decided to hold a protest outside PEMRA offices in Islamabad and all its regional offices the day Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) officials meet the authority’s chairman.

A PFUJ release said the protest aims to highlight the plight of electronic media journalists and workers not given their legal rights by media owners. The release did not specify when exactly the protest will take place.

The decision to hold demonstrations across the country was taken at the first-ever online meeting of the Central Executive Council of PFUJ. President Afzal Butt presided over the meeting. All members of the FEC attended.

The meeting decided that PFUJ will oppose the proposed demand of the PBA to increase the commercial air time until the media owners agree to fulfill their legal obligations like issuing appointment letters, disbursing salaries on-time, providing medical facilities, insurance, provident fund and gratuity besides also agreeing to a wage structure for their employees.

The FEC meeting directed all the unions of journalists to mobilize workers by holding corner meetings and utilizing all their energies to making the protest successful.
