PFUJ presses for release of Jazeera journos

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) held countrywide protests Monday to press for release of three Al-Jazeera English journalists detained by the Egyptian government for more than 50 days now.

President PFUJ Afzal Butt and Secretary General Khurshid Abbasi had asked all affiliated unions and press clubs to organize demonstrations to urge the Egyptian government to free the television journalists unconditionally.

In Islamabad, Afzal Butt and other union leaders addressed the protesters outside the National Press Club.

Meanwhile, the Federal Executive Committee (FEC) of PFUJ will be held in Quetta on February 21-22, says an announcement. Balochistan Union of Journalists will host the meeting at the Quetta Press Club.

All affiliated unions and delegates will attend the sessions to discuss organizational issues of PFUJ, state of security for media persons and undue sackings by media houses.
