PFUJ calls for reinstatement of sacked Khabrain and Tribune employees

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has condemned the layoffs at Khabrain and The Express Tribune newspapers.

The Khabrain Group sacked five employees while Tribune terminated several staffers in the name of right-sizing.

“We condemn these illegal terminations which are in complete violation of Labor laws,” a PFUJ media release said Monday. “We will do everything possible to protect the rights of working journalists,” the union said.

The PFUJ also expressed concern over reports that the Express Group was preparing lists to terminate more employees. “We call on the managements of both Khabrain and Express Groups to refrain from taking anti-labor action and warn them that if any such action is taken, the PFUJ will stand up against the managements.”

The union has demanded that all sacked employees be reinstated immediately.

The PFUJ also expressed deep sympathies with the family of a Geo TV worker in Quetta who committed suicide due to financial difficulties.

It directed the Balochistan Union of Journalists to probe the incident to find out real facts and submit its report to PFUJ. If required, the PFUJ will take further action, after receiving the report.
