PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday passed a bill that would ensure Rs1 million to each journalist killed in the line of duty in terrorism incidents.
Pakistan Today reported the KP Journalists Welfare Endowment Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2015 was moved by Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani in the assembly. The bill also allows for payment of Rs20,000 to family members of a journalist who is killed or to a journalist in case of death of his family member as funeral charges.
A similar amount will be paid for medical treatment of a journalist or his family member. A journalist who becomes permanently disabled due to any reason will be paid Rs200,000. However, once a journalist is compensated he will not be entitled to claim further compensation under any other law in force, the paper said.
