Congressman Brad Sherman warns any attack on a journalist in America is an assault on 'our sovereignty'

WASHINGTON—US Congressman Brad Sherman has said that any attempt to assassinate a journalist on American soil would be an attack on “America and our sovereignty.”

“Any assassination of the journalist on American soil is an attack on America and our sovereignty,” the congressman said at an event on the state of democracy in Pakistan. Congressman Sherman, Jim Costa, and Dr. Asif Mehmood arranged the event in Washington.

At the event, journalist Moeed Pirzada, facing treason charges in Pakistan, raised concerns about his safety and disclosed that the FBI informed him that they have reasons to believe that Pakistani authorities are trying to target him.

The congressman said he was concerned about the FBI report.
Later, in a tweet, Moeed said, “Congressman Brad Sherman sent a clear message to Pakistani Junta in response to my comment & question today while discussion in US Congress on Human Rights in Pakistan.”
