PEMRA notice to NewsOne for Shahid Masood's 'baseless' comment about Tariq Fatemi

ISLAMABAD –  Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has served a show-cause notice on NewsOne TV after its analyst Dr. Shahid Masood alleged that prime minister’s advisor on foreign affairs Tariq Fatemi had ‘fled’ the country with ‘lots of dollars’.

The comments went on air on the program Live with Dr. Shahid Masood on April 22.

PEMRA said Thursday Fatemi had complained that no one from NewsOne contacted him for seeking his point of view. He said it was an attempt to defame the foreign affairs department and damage his reputation.

Fatemi dismissed the comments as false and baseless, PEMRA said.

The channel has until May 4 to explain why the program Live with Dr. Shahid Masood not be banned or a fine of Rs1 million imposed on it, or further still its license not canceled.
