ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) has received unconfirmed reports about attacks on three journalists during crackdown on Khatam-e-Nabuwat rally.
Senior reporter Qamar Munawar of Dunya TV received a bullet injury while Channel 24 reporter Sadam Mangar sustained minor injuries. Senior photojournalist Tanveer Shahzad of Dawn was attacked by protesters on Murree Road. He was rescued by some people.
An Aaj TV news gathering van was also attacked.
In a statement Saturday, the RIUJ strongly condemned these attacks. “The RIUJ is seriously concerned with the rising violence on journalists since the start of operation at Faizabad. We urge our colleagues to keep their physical security first while performing their duties."
RIUJ also called on the government to ensure safety of journalists.
