Usman Buzdar serves legal notice on Awn Chaudhry over a defamatory media campaign

LAHORE—Former Chief Minister Punjab, Usman Buzdar (pictured), has served a legal notice of Rs500 million on PTI dissident leader Awn Chaudhry for launching a “defamatory campaign” against him in the media.

In the legal notice on behalf of Buzdar, counsel Mubeenuddin Qazi stated that Awn Chaudhry was doing his client’s character assassination through public statements containing serious defamatory content and remarks for ulterior motives.

“You are abusing your current official position as Advisor to the Prime Minister of Pakistan to assassinate my client’s character and victimize him,” the notice stated. It emphasized that the false statements of serious nature had also appeared on almost all the leading television channels and were published in nearly all the prominent English and Urdu daily newspapers.

The notice stated that the defamatory content was also circulating widely on social media.

It demanded that Chaudhry tender and get published an unconditional apology within 15 working days in print and electronic media, especially all television channels and daily newspapers, along with an undertaking that such acts would not be repeated.

If Awn Chaudhry fails to comply with the notice within 15 days, the legal notice warned that Buzdar would be at liberty to initiate appropriate legal proceedings.
