ISLAMABAD-More than a month after his murder in Kenya, the Supreme Court of Pakistan Tuesday took suo moto notice of journalist Arshad Sharif’s "brutal killing."

In a statement, the apex court said Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial has taken notice of the killing and fixed the matter for hearing on Tuesday at 12:30 pm. According to the statement, a five-member bench would hear the case.

Sharif was killed in Kenya on October 24 this year. In this regard, the court issued notices to the interior secretary, foreign affairs secretary, information and broadcasting secretary, Federal Investigation Agency director general (DG), Intelligence Bureau DG, and the president of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ).

The statement said: "The journalist community in the country and the public at large are deeply distressed and are concerned about the death of the senior journalist and are seeking the court’s scrutiny of the matter."
