ISLAMABAD – The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists warned of protests at Pakistan People’s Party events if it did not reveal the identities of workers who beat up a Geo News cameraperson last week.

In a protest organized outside the National Press Club, journalists expressed surprise over the PPP’s silence over the incident.

Shiraz Gardezi was assaulted allegedly by PPP activists outside the National Accountability Bureau where Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his father Asif Ali Zardari who is also the co-chairperson of the party were summoned.

Gardezi, also a joint secretary of the National Press Club Islamabad, recounted the events. He said he had done nothing wrong and was only performing his duties professionally when the PPP workers targeted him.

The protesters chanted slogans and called for prompt action against the perpetrators.
