RAWALPINDI—Private security guards of PTI leader and former deputy speaker of the National Assembly Qasim Khan Suri have allegedly tortured GNN TV reporter Idrees Abbasi at the Rawalpindi Cattle Market.

The reporter had asked a few questions from the PTI leader. However, Suri's guards thrashed him and damaged the channel's vehicle.

Mian Shahid, Bureau Chief GNN, approached the Naseerabad police station to lodge FIR against Suri and his guards.

The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) condemned the incident and demanded that IG Punjab and Rawalpindi Police officials take strict action in this regard.

In a statement, RIUJ President Abid Abbasi, Secretary-General Tariq Ali Virk, and others said the government had failed to protect the journalist community. The RIUJ warned that it would hold a protest campaign in case of no appropriate action.
