ISLAMABAD—Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has announced countrywide protests on Friday to condemn the assault on journalist Asad Ali Toor.

The protests will be held in front of press clubs across Pakistan, demanding action against the assailants and others who carried out similar attacks on media persons earlier.  

Journalists and media workers are expected to participate in large numbers in protest rallies and gatherings to condemn the attacks on media persons.

PFUJ said Wednesday it was committed to being the frontline body for the safety and security of journalists and media workers.                          

The union has requested the civil society, labor and trade unions, and the general public to support the cause and participate in the rallies to send a strong message to those involved in crimes against journalists. 

The union has especially appealed to all TV presenters and media persons covering official events or news conferences to tie black bands on their arms as a mark of protest against the attacks on their fellow media persons.
