PFUJ demands judicial inquiry of journalist Aziz Memon's murder

ISLAMABAD—The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on Monday condemned the brutal killing of a journalist from interior Sindh and demanded a judicial inquiry.

Aziz Memon, who worked for Sindhi TV channel KTN News and daily Kawish was murdered on Sunday, and his body found in an irrigation canal in Naushahro Feroz.

In a joint statement, President of PFUJ Shehzada Zulfiqar and Secretary-General Nasir Zaidi called for the immediate arrest of the murderers.

Earlier, in a video message posted on the social media, Memon had demanded security as he was receiving threats after he reported that Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s long march last year included paid participants. He even named some officials of Sindh government who threatened him of dire consequences.

The union leaders said that the loud voices of media and professional journalists could not be silenced as the community is determined to protect the independence of media and will fight till the last.

“We want an immediate and urgent inquiry into the incident by a judge of the Sindh High court and arrest of the murderers,” the PFUJ leaders demanded.
