Obaid Abbasi quits journalism, takes up a government job

ISLAMABAD—Obaid Abbasi, an Islamabad-based journalist having outstanding achievements to his credit working with print media,  has decided to quit journalism to join a government job.

In a series of tweets, Abbasi stated, "A 14-year long journey in [the] media industry comes to an end in 2022. The career which started with Pakistan Press International, in 2009 comes to an end at 92 Media Group in 2022 after passing ups and downs.

"I have formally joined government service, and my new placement is at [the] Ministry of Planning Development & Special Initiatives."

"Over a decade experience, exposure and learning in print media was a great opportunity indeed especially, at the leading daily The Express Tribune, under the supervision of late Zia Uddin sahib, Kamal Siddiqui & Farman Ali," he tweeted.

Abbasi hoped that the new journey would open up new horizons and challenges. "It will be a valuable experience at M/o Planning Development & Special Initiatives, which is considered a key ministry. I also hope and pray that my friends and family will continue to support me like they did in the past."
