ISLAMABAD—Naeem Bokhari, the newly appointed chairperson of Pakistan Television, has outlined his priorities and restated that PTV belongs to the Pakistan government and would project it correctly.

“PTV is owned 100 percent by the Government of Pakistan; let there be no doubt about it,” he said in a video message. “We will show the splendid work of the armed forces and what the government has done while also pointing out the things it should do.”

He promised to improve programming, which he thought was presently below par. “At the moment, the viewers are being fed only politics from 7-11 pm. My job is to improve programming.”

The federal government named Bokhari as the chairperson and an independent director of the PTVC’s board last week.

“PTV should have three purposes—to inform, educate, and entertain,” he said. “I will try my best to make a difference within weeks.”
