ISLAMABAD—Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb said the newly amended PEMRA law would benefit the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf most, and the media was free to mention his name.
During the talk show Capital Talk on Geo News, host Hamid Mir pointed out that the media is not allowed to take the name of the former prime minister. The information minister asked him to mention Imran Khan’s name.
TV channels were barred from mentioning Imran Khan after the May 9 events. When the IMF team went and met with the former prime minister, ARY News blurred the ex-PM while airing pictures of the meeting.
“You can mention his name. Who has denied you,” the minister told Mir, who termed it good news.
The minister said if she wanted to ban the name of the former prime minister, she would have asked the chairman of PEMRA to issue a notice in this regard.
