PESHAWAR – The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) is seeking cancellation of declarations of three news outlets that have sacked all staff in Peshawar but use the ‘Peshawar Edition’ tag on their respective mastheads and print lines.
In a letter to the deputy commissioner Peshawar, President KhUJ, Saiful Islam Saifi, and Senior Vice President Aziz Buneri pointed out that Daily Express, Daily Akhbar-e-Khyber, and Jang Rawalpindi had closed their operations in Peshawar and terminated journalists and other staff.
“After the closure of their operations in Peshawar, they are left with no justification to have a declaration from Peshawar and publish Peshawar edition of the papers.”
The letter points out that by issuing the Peshawar editions, the newspapers manage to take the lion’s share of official advertisements.
