ISLAMABAD -  Muhammad Saeed Butt, a journalist who worked for an Urdu newspaper was shot dead by two unidentified shooters on Monday at a shop in the city of Abdul Hakeem, a sub-district of Khanewal district.

Daily Times reported on Wednesday that Saeed was at a shop in the main market when two masked men, suspected to be dacoits arrived and demanded money.

The paper said that according to eyewitnesses, the victim handed over his wallet but the dacoits demanded more money which he did not have. They then shot him dead and fled.

Police said an FIR has been lodged and three suspects, including a woman, were arrested from Multan with the help of CCTV footage.

Saeed Butt’s son Saad Butt said that his father had been receiving threatening phone calls for reporting incidents of honor killing. He claimed that his father was killed because of his work.

Saeed Butt was also a former president of the local press club.
