ISLAMABAD—Senior journalist and columnist Haroon Rashid on Eid Day apologized for tweeting that Imran Riaz Khan has been released and reunited with his family.
A tweet in Urdu by Haroon said that he had come to know that Imran, missing since May 11 this year, has been released and that he is healthy. He also added that this made his Eid special. However, other people doubted the claim.
Around 25 minutes later, Haroon apologized. He said he received a message from Imran's father, who informed him that he had not reached home. He added he believed an old clip about the journalist's release.
Haroon, however, said he was informed earlier that Imran would be released.
During the hearing of the case of civilians' trial by military courts, Supreme Court Chief Justice Umer Ata Bandial asked the attorney general to make efforts for Imran's release so that he could spend Eid with his family.
