Indecent content: PEMRA warns three channels

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued separate warnings to three private TV channels for airing indecent content.

According to a media release, Geo Entertainment had aired a drama serial on August 7 that violated PEMRA laws and the Electronic Media Code of Conduct.

HUM TV was issued a show-cause notice on May 21 after it aired objectionable content. The regulator found the channel had violated its laws and ignored the socio-cultural norms and values.

ARY Communications was also served a show-cause notice on April 10 and asked to explain why HBO aired indecent content. This act of the channel was found to be against various provisions of the Electronic Media Code of Conduct 2015.

ARY Communications is the sole landing rights owner of HBO.

PEMRA examined ARY’s reply and found that it had violated laws and the media’s code of conduct.

All three channels were issued warnings.
