ISLAMABAD—Former Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry has held the media houses responsible for the difficulties the working journalists face.
In a tweet in Urdu, he said that in 2021 the business of all media houses registered a 40 percent increase. “But the owners did not transfer a single rupee to working journalists.”
He was commenting on the news that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a package for the seemingly struggling print media industry. The former minister wondered why these difficulties continue even after making so much profit.
“Stop bribing the media. Is this a joke that public money is being spent on personal publicity?” he asked.
Many people, including journalists, recently criticized the coalition government for giving massive ads in the print media about the prime minister’s visit to Turkey.
