Court orders payment of dues to newspapers before Oct. 30

KARACHI — The Sindh High Court has ordered Sindh Information Department to hold a meeting with the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) office-bearers for payment of outstanding dues before October 30th with compliance report to the court.

The directive came from a two-member division bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Faisal Agha during a hearing on the contempt petition filed by CPNE against non-compliance of a court order dated May 30, 2019 by the SHC.

CPNE Secretary-General Dr. Jabbar Khattak informed the court that partial payments had been made so far, but massive payments for advertisements issued directly or through advertising agencies were not made.

Director advertisement Sindh Information Department Zulfiqar Ali Shah submitted that more than partial payments had been made, and the remaining amount would be paid soon.

The court ordered both parties to hold a series of meetings if required to resolve the matter.

"Reconcile payment details and submit compliance report of payments on 30th October before the court," Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar directed.

Senior editors, journalists, and media workers were present during the hearing in large numbers.
